I have always been very curious about the little heated sauna rooms located in many clubs which are there but seemed seldom used.
After my workout last week I decided to give it a try…. also to make full use of my club membership.
After sitting in there enduring the heat of 70 celsius for 10 minutes, I emerged feeling really fresh and after cooling down with a shower, wow, had a really fantastic feel (that much toxins was expelled from my body!)
BENEFITS OF SAUNA
1. Originally built by Finns, it is used for cleansing the mind and rejuvenating the spirit.
2. It has many health benefits like helping to relieve symptoms of cold, asthma, bronchitis, alleivate pain and improve joint mobility for those with rheumatic disease.
3. The increase blood flow helps to rejuvenate skin so it’s good for people with acne or problem skin.
4. When combined with exercise therapy it can clear chemicals and toxins from the body.
5. When combined with cold water immersion it can reduce recovery time in athletes, enhance repeat performance and reduce exercise induced muscle damage.
The list goes on… and now I know why there are so many of this little wooden ‘hut’ in the changing rooms of health clubs.
So for those of you who have not maximise the use of it if you have access to one, try it at least 3 times a week, starting with 10 mins timing.
TIP: Best effect is to sauna after exercise.

This is a nice little Finnish sauna log house built by the lake. It is Finnish tradition to immerse into the cold water after heating up in the sauna to stimulate the body.
